Flooring Tools needed for installing floating floors

It needn't cost the earth to rig yourself up with some great tools. You could shop till you drop, and buy all manner of weird and wonderful flooring tool gadgetry, but the emphasis is on good value, and good quality. Both of which needn't mean "expensive"

The basic kit for any budding laminate floor or wood flooring installer is:

Tape Measure

Work Bench
Not essential, but extremely useful, especially when cutting full length planks down to size. Prices start from around ( £15 / $37 )(hover over this link )
Carpenters Square
Fundamental tool in flooring. Mark out widths, and cross cuts, using the square we can set up and cut exact 90 degree cuts . Prices start around ( £5 / $12 ) (hover over this link )
Jigsaw
Simple and inexpensve, but vitally important tool for floor laying. The jigsaw, is now even cheaper tha ever. Buy the best quality you can afford. For laminate flooring, you do not require pendulum action. However try and buy down cutter jigsaw vlades, these minimize chipping on the surface of the flooring as you cut it. Pull Bar
Purpose made tool, for flooring. The pullbar is "the" tool, that when you havent got one, you NEED it, and when you have got one, you didnt USE it. By inserting the hooked section over the lip of the floor ( usually at wall edges ) you can jemmy the flooring into place, by levering the pullbar. Even tapping the opposite end with a hammer, works. Jamb Cut Saw
Not an essential tool, but worth having. Is used for trimming architraves, and door jamb mouldings, to allow flooring to slide under. Blade is very very sharp, and you cut on the pull stroke. Prices vary greatly by quality, from( £17 / $40 )... info (hover over this link )
Hammer
You cannot be without your trusty hammer. Never tap the face or edges of the laminate flooring, as they are very brittle. Instead use the pullbar , and hit that with the hammer. Or use a tapping block.. Prices from ( £3 / $8 )... info (hover over this link )
